Southwest Foot Institute
Dr. Michael Dershowitz is the founder and medical director of the Southwest Foot Institute which he began in 1979 in Phoenix and later expanded to Glendale and Scottsdale.
He is a graduate of The George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. in 1973 and of the Pennslvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 1977 (now the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine). Following graduation from medical school, he completed an intensive year of foot surgery training at the Community Hospital of Phoenix in 1978.
Dr. Dershowitz is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery since 1987 and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also a member of the American and Arizona Podiatric Medical Associations. He is a former Vice-President of the Arizona Podiatric Medical Association and a member of its Ethics Committee.
A former co-host of "Your Good Health" on KXEG radio in Phoenix, Dr. Dershowitz has been featured on various local TV and radio stations introducing new and innovative surgical procedures to the public (Endoscopic Heel surgery and Nerve Decompression surgery for neuropathy).
Of particular note is the specialized training he has undertaken with A. Lee Dellon, M.D., a professor of Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical School, in Baltimore, Maryland, to learn nerve decompression surgical techniques to aid in the restoration of sensation and elimination of neuropathic pain, both in diabetics and non-diabetic patients.
