Dr. Ryan Pinedo

Dr. Ryan Pinedo is the new owner and medical director of Southwest Foot Institute which was founded in 1979 by Dr. Michael Dershowitz. The office originally opened in Phoenix and has since expanded to a second office in Glendale.

Dr. Pinedo graduated from Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. He then completed a 4-year podiatric medical degree from the Arizona School of Podiatric Medicine at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. Dr. Pinedo furthered his training with a 3-year intensive surgical residency in Salt Lake City, Utah at Intermountain Medical Center, and the Salt Lake City VA Hospital where he performed nearly 1400 surgeries. His residency gave him experience in all aspects of forefoot surgery, reconstructive rearfoot surgery, as well as comprehensive diabetic foot care where he was able to learn from over 50 attending physicians.

Following residency, Dr. Pinedo joined Family Foot and Ankle Specialists in Greenville, Texas. There he treated patients with all foot and ankle ailments including foot and ankle fractures, rearfoot deformities, bunions, hammertoes, ankle arthritis, sports injuries, and multiple trauma cases. He also enjoyed treating pediatric patients with ingrown toenails, sports injuries, bunions, and flatfeet.

Dr. Pinedo is Board Certified with the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is board qualified with the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is a member of the American and Arizona Podiatric Medication Associations as well as the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

When Dr. Pinedo is not in the clinic or the operating room, he loves spending time with his wife and 4 children enjoying golf, baseball, hiking, fishing, and reading.

Dr. Michael Dershowitz is the founder and medical director of the Southwest Foot Institute which he began in 1979 in Phoenix and later expanded to Glendale and Scottsdale.

He is a graduate of The George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. in 1973 and of the Pennslvania College of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA in 1977 (now the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine). Following graduation from medical school, he completed an intensive year of foot surgery training at the Community Hospital of Phoenix in 1978.

Dr. Dershowitz is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery since 1987 and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also a member of the American and Arizona Podiatric Medical Associations. He is a former Vice-President of the Arizona Podiatric Medical Association and a member of its Ethics Committee.

A former co-host of “Your Good Health” on KXEG radio in Phoenix, Dr. Dershowitz has been featured on various local TV and radio stations introducing new and innovative surgical procedures to the public (Endoscopic Heel surgery and Nerve Decompression surgery for neuropathy).

Of particular note is the specialized training he has undertaken with A. Lee Dellon, M.D., a professor of Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical School, in Baltimore, Maryland, to learn nerve decompression surgical techniques to aid in the restoration of sensation and elimination of neuropathic pain, both in diabetics and non-diabetic patients.
