Podiatrists are often called upon to evaluate and treat many traumatic conditions of the foot, ankle and lower leg.
Persistent and recurrent ankle sprains should be evaluated and severe soft tissue types of injuries should be treated and assessed. Pain that does not improve may be signs of fractures or “stress fractures” and should be assessed. Though the majority of injuries are often evaluated initially in an emergency room, patients are consulting with their podiatrists more often for these types of problems.
