Dr. Michael Dershowitz is the founder and medical director of the Southwest Foot Institute, begun in 1979 in Phoenix, Arizona and having expanded to both Glendale and Scottsdale, Arizona.
He is a graduate of The George Washington University, in Washington, D.C. in 1973 and of the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine (now the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine) in 1977. Following graduation from medical school, he completed an intensive year of foot surgery training at the Community Hospital of Phoenix.
Dr. Dershowitz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery since 1987 and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, in addition to being a member of the Arizona and American Podiatric Medical Associations. He is a former Vice-President of the Arizona Podiatric Medical Association and a member of its Ethics Committee.
A former co-host of “Your Good Health” on KXEG radio, Dr. Dershowitz has been featured on various local TV and radio stations introducing new and innovative surgical procedures to the public.
Of particular note is the specialized training he has undertaken with A. Lee Dellon, M.D., a professor of Neurosurgery and Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical School, in Baltimore, Maryland, to learn nerve decompression surgical techniques to aid in the restoration of sensation and elimination of neuropathic pain, both in diabetics and non-diabetic patients.
