CORNS

For the most part, Corns are the body’s response to abnormal pressure.  This manifests itself as a build up of excessive skin, or a “corn” or a “callous” that the body develops to protect itself from excessive pressure.

The pressure can be caused by too much weight beneath a bony surface, from too much pressure between adjacent toes, or by abnormal shoe pressure against a portion of the foot.

Sometimes these problems can be eliminated or modified by changes in shoe gear or by wearing the proper shoes.  When this is not successful, professional help is often need to determine what is causing the painful skin lesion and what should be done to eliminate the problem.

Both conservative and surgical methods are often possible in these instances, depending upon the patient’s condition, contributing medical conditions and personal preference.
